Walworth, Wis. – March 17, 2015 – What began nearly a half-century ago as a self-imposed “save the signs” crusade, has since become The Walker Sign Collection, comprising more than 400 neon signs, many of which are one-of-a-kind, double-sided porcelain signs. The entire assemblage, collected by one passionate man, will be offered at auction by Mecum Auctions at a stand-alone event on Friday and Saturday, March 27 and 28 near West Memphis, Ark., at 11523 US Highway 70 near the US 50 interchange.

The collection will be available to preview on Friday, March 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the auction to begin on Friday and run from 5 to 8 p.m. Gates will open for preview on Saturday, March 28 at 8 a.m., and the auction will resume at 10 a.m. Bidder registration is $25 and includes an official auction catalog and admission for the bidder and one guest for both event days.

From beer and soda to automobiles and drug stores, and just about everything in between, the collection consists mainly of car dealer-size, double-sided porcelain neons. Mr. Walker, a lover of great classic cars and street rods, says that his affinity for signs seemed like a natural progression. “Well, being a car guy, I thought owning some of the dealership signs would be something fun to get into,” Walker said. “And once I got into that, I quickly found that the future of these signs was not shaping up to be such a pretty picture.”

When Mr. Walker learned that other buyers of these signs would take them apart and sell them individually as two signs, his passion for purchasing the signs increased. “They were destroying the history of these signs,” says Walker, “so when I realized what was going on, I just went crazy buying signs.”

On why he is now selling his collection, Walker explains, “I’m 74 years old and I’ve got to do something with them! It’s certainly not that I don’t like them anymore. It was just that I figured they should be hung up so people can enjoy them.”

Rogers’ Classic Car Museum Auction – Las Vegas Feb 27 -28, 2015

News Release:  Mecum Car Auctions 2015 – Las Vegas – Rogers’ Classic Car Museum

ROGERS’ CLASSIC CAR MUSEUM // 230 VEHICLES

Las Vegas, NV 89102
February 27-28, 2015

1953 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible

Media mogul, former chancellor and lover of all things automotive, Jim Rogers was one of this era’s most passionate activists and most generous philanthropists – and in addition, he was a prolific collector of classic automobiles. His $130-million gift to his alma mater, the University of Arizona College of Law, stands as the largest single donation ever made to an American law school, and he was named by Time Magazine as one of the top 12 philanthropists in the nation after his donations to institutions of higher education reached $275 million.

Rogers passed away in June at age 75, but his passions did not die with him, and he left behind a legacy larger than life, as well as his 230-plus-car collection. Rogers committed himself fully to everything he did and believed in, and his collection of classic cars grew just as quickly as his generous contributions to education and the arts.

Rogers truly represented the quintessential classic car enthusiast. He was more than just a collector; he had extensive knowledge about the cars and the details of their existence. “He didn’t just buy the cars – he knew every little detail about their production,” says his widow Beverly. “He knew how many Oldsmobiles, Buicks, and Cadillacs that had been made from the end of World War II through the ’70s, and he could rattle off the particulars of each model.”

After Rogers’ passing last year, it was decided that the collection should be used to pay it forward, the way Rogers had always lived his own life. That is why it was decided to offer the entire collection at auction with all proceeds to benefit The Rogers Foundation – dedicated to transforming the lives of K-12 students and artists in Southern Nevada through arts and education grants and scholarships. The auction will be held right from the collection’s museum display space in Las Vegas this February 27-28.

“When you buy a car from Jim Rogers’ collection, you’re not just buying a well-made or refurbished automobile,” Beverly says, “you’re buying a piece of American history. Take it to heart – enjoy it – and my heartfelt request is that someday you pass it on, and let the next generation understand and appreciate the place of the automobile in American history. That, my friends, will do Jim proud.”

1000 Collector and Muscle Cars Auction

News Release:

Harrisburg To Host Mecum, World’s Largest Collector Car Auction Company July 24-27 1,000 Collector and Muscle Cars Set to Cross the Block

WALWORTH, Wis. – July 18, 2014 – Mecum Auctions, the largest collector car auction company in the world, will conduct its first-ever auction in the Keystone State this July 24-27 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center with an estimated 1,000 cars expected to cross the auction block Thursday through Saturday and 200 motorcycles on Sunday.
The Mecum Harrisburg Auction is the ninth of 17 auctions on the 2014 calendar. Buyers, sellers and spectators are welcome to attend. Gates will open daily at 8 a.m., and the auction begins each day at 10 a.m. All consigned cars will be accessible for viewing by ticketed customers before they reach the auction block. General admission tickets are $20 per day for adults, and children 12 and younger receive complimentary admission. Bidder registration is $100.

“People have been asking for years when we would host an auction on the East Coast,” said Dana Mecum, founder and President of Mecum Auctions. “The Harrisburg-Hershey area is truly a mecca for many collector car enthusiasts. We look forward to becoming a staple in the impressive lineup of annual car events that already take place in the area and also to reach a great community of classic and collector car fans.”
Featured consignments include a selection of more than a dozen cars from the personal collection of legendary collector car auctioneer and Pennsylvania native J. Omar Landis, as well as a one-of-four 1970 Dodge Hemi Coronet R/T equipped with both the 426/425hp Hemi engine and New Process four-speed manual transmission. Other features that speak to the variety of the lineup include a 1916 Cadillac Town Car, a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS Z28 and a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback.

The Mecum Harrisburg Auction will be broadcast live and same-day delay on NBC Sports Network. Broadcast times to be announced. Segments of the auction not broadcast on NBCSN are streamed live at Mecum.com.

“We see the Mecum Auction as the final crowned jewel, completing a royal list of annual events now hosted in our region for automobile enthusiasts,” said Mary Smith, President of the Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau. “Collectors and connoisseurs know and love the Hershey Harrisburg Region for such world-class car events as the AACA Eastern Regional Fall Meet, considered one of the largest antique automobile shows and flea markets in the U.S., and The Elegance at Hershey, a charity event at The Hotel Hershey featuring a Concours d’Elegance and vintage racing.”
